We have been driving positive change in the forestry industry with a game changing approach to forestry management through our software called RemoteHQ. The outcomes of which are to ensure our freshwater environment and hill country is protected from sedimentation and erosion respectively.
As part of an initiative to improve risk based decision making we were conducting hydrological analysis based on digital elevation models derived from drone imagery for forestry blocks to help determine surface water flow downslope. Our staff automated the hydrological process as a collection of python scripts which used to take a few hours down to several minutes or seconds and was executable through an open source GIS package called QGIS. We then built a dynamic vector tile server to improve web visualization and web map performance.
